Signature Style Series: Effortlessly Chic – Monochromatic

One of the easiest (and most on trend) ways to look effortlessly chic is to wear a monochromatic look. This means you choose one color to wear from head to toe. Monochromatic looks are easy to pull of and universally flattering. Wearing one color from head to toe will slim anyone down.

In the examples below I’ve used two of the easiest monochromatic looks – black and cream. However, you don’t have to stop there. You can certainly push the style envelope by going monochromatic in other hues. One of my favorite colors is wine which was all over the runways for the fall collections. I can’t wait to cop a pair of wine colored jeans and pull a wine colored look off from head to toe.

To avoid looking like a cartoon character avoid monochromatic looks in super bright colors. Opt for neutrals (black, white, tan/nude, etc.) or rich colors (wine, royal blue, deep purple). If you’re feeling bold go for a strong hue like red.

Keep jewelry complimentary. Wearing a monochromatic look definitely means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. So you don’t want to take away from the overall look by having one distracting piece.

In the all black look below I paired a simple pair of black slacks with a ruffled black top. The detail in the shirt added enough of a touch to keep the all-black ensemble from being boring. The jewelry was simple and elegant and I kept the clutch minimal with a pretty bow detail.

In the cream look I paired a pair of cream slacks with a sheer top with bow detail at the neck. Again, the gold jewelry is simple and make-up is minimal. An all white (or cream) ensemble always looks classic and elegant. You make a bold statement without really having to try.

    1. I’m hoping to make it. I’ll be at the Made in America festival that day, but I’m doing my best to do double duty!!!

    1. Well make sure to snap a pic next time! There is something so elegant about rocking one color from head to toe. I’m thinking of maybe doing it tomorrow with blush. We’ll see!!!
