Originally, I planned to give readers some tips and tricks about how to dress for the Inauguration. However, Curvy CEO has got you covered; so, I decided to focus on the other reason January 21, 2013 is special. It marks Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which, around the country, is traditionally a day of service.
No, this post is not about what to wear to volunteer (though, if you’re painting wear stretchy stuff and if you’re working outside think jeans and long sleeves). If you’re volunteering on Monday that is great! However, if you haven’t decided to volunteer your time just yet, there are plenty of fashionable, charitable organizations that could use your gently used clothing and accessories or generous donations.
Below are two of my favorites:
1. The Career Wardrobe – From the Career Wardrobe Website:
Career Wardrobe provides a continuous system of employability support that meets the needs of women as they transition into the workforce and begin their working lives. Career Wardrobe’s programs start by assisting women with the interview process and continue by helping women develop the skills needed to become valuable employees and retain employment. Since 1995, Career Wardrobe has served women in Philadelphia with the clothing, career skills, and confidence necessary to transition to work. In that time, we have helped nearly 75,000 women on their journeys to independence.
2. Dress for Success – From the Dress for Success Website:
The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work. Since 1997, Dress for Success has served more than 650,000 women around the world.
While you’re lounging around, having a lazy breakfast on Monday, go through those closets, drawers and where ever else you have your clothes and pull them out to donate for a good cause.
