Intern Mania!

By Erika, Resident Fashionista

Over the past couple of months you may have noticed that we have a case of intern mania around here.  YCS, the company and the blog, continues to grow and I’m happy to say that we found two great interns to help us through our growing pains.  We are also posting one more intern position (crazy, right!); but I’ll get to that in a bit.

First, it’s time for you guys to get to know a bit more about our current interns!

Trish, Social Media Intern aka Social Media Rockstar

Say hi to our super adorable, incredibly smart and highly motivated Social Media Intern Trish!
Say hi to our super adorable, incredibly smart and highly motivated Social Media Intern Trish!

Trish is a fun-loving college sophomore who eats, sleeps, and breathes fashion. She is a self-proclaimed member of “the fashion-police.” She has an obsession with every type of social media one can imagine, and uses them as an outlet for her love of fashion. Trish is a native of the Philadelphia suburbs who is currently studying at the University of Pittsburgh, double majoring in Communication and Business. She loves J. Crew, iced coffee, Law and Order: SVU, her cat, and reading every fashion blog she can find!

1. What one word best describes you?

Wow that’s a tough one but i would say “outgoing.”

2. What were you like as a kid?

I was always drawing clothes because I wanted to be a fashion designer so badly. I was a goofy little kid always playing pretend, and I loved the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys.

3. What is your secret fashion/make-up/hair weapon?

I have really small eyes so when I apply makeup to my eyes I use a white eye liner on the inside corners and it opens them a lot.

4. What makes you laugh, uncontrollably, without fail, every time?

I’m a sucker for babies laughing. Big belly laughs. Gets me every time.

5. What is your favorite food?

People are going to be weirded out by this but pickles. Dill pickles are my absolute favorite food of all time.

6. What 3 movies can you watch over and over?

The Notebook, Mean Girls, and Zoolander.

7. What would you do with $1 million dollars?

Buy a shore house. My mom would probably love for me to pay my tuition but a shore house is just something I would need.

8. What is the best course you’ve taken in college, so far?

Definitely my Modern Religion in America. It was just a general education course but it was so interesting and I really learned a lot about different religions.

9. If you could invite any 5 people (ever) to dinner, who would you choose?

Taylor Swift (my favorite person ever), Ronald Reagan (my favorite president, rest in peace), Bill O’Reilly, Jesus, and David Beckham strictly because I really like looking at him.

10. What are your words to live by?

“Life’s a party, dress like it” – Lily Pulitzer

Our Blog Management Intern Kiari keeps all of your favorite YCS contributors in line!

Living her life in the margin,” Kiari has always strived to be different by using her eclectic taste to stay true to herself. Just a broke college student, trying to make something out of nothing, she always sees the light at the end of the tunnel. With her fashion knowledge and obsession with pop culture, fashion trends, music (especially Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar), social media and philosophy (she likes to be at peace with herself and the world) she uses her “gift of gab” to engender publicity. As a busy body, she has taken on leadership roles that keep her goal oriented and focused. Student by day, intern by night, Kiari always believes you should “keep your mind hungry and your heart full.”

1. What one word best describes you?

Eclectic

2. What were you like as a kid?

I was a good kid. I was all about problem solving and getting around the system.  There was an incident where my Aunt told me I couldn’t eat the cookies, so I decided to open all of the drawers and climb up on top of the fridge. Let’s just say I had a stomach ache after.

3. What is your secret fashion/make-up/hair weapon?

I have to wear mascara and black. I’m about always being chic and changing the shoes on my feet.

4. What makes you laugh, uncontrollably, without fail, every time?

This sounds bad but I always laugh at people falling. [Editor’s Note: Don’t worry, so does Torrey! One of my favorite shoes is AFHV and I crack up all the time.

5. What is your favorite food?

Anything Italian.

6. What 3 movies can you watch over and over?

Titanic, Chronicles of Narnia, and anything with Chris Tucker

7. What would you do with $1 million dollars?

Give some to my mom; save some of the money to get two more degrees; put some in a secret account to save for future endeavors.

8. What is the best course you’ve taken in college, so far?

Production Analysis and Costing

9. If you could invite any 5 people (ever) to dinner, who would you choose?

Jennifer Lopez, Will Smith, Jessica Alba, Drake, and Oprah

10. What are your words to live by?

Simplicity is life. Live and let live. Always put your happiness first.

In our search to find our Social Media and Blog Management Interns we came across a number of people who were interested in the positions (yay!).  In fact, it was really tough to pick our interns because there were so many great candidates!  We are hoping to have the same happy problem in our quest to find a General Intern – Styling and Event Planning.  This position can be described as “CEO Junior.”  As the business side of YCS grows I’m really looking for someone who can learn the business intimately and get involved in all aspects of the business from attending fashion shows and writing reviews, to helping plan our major events (and we’ve got 3 coming up!), to assisting at styling appointments to general bookkeeping.  This intern will have the opportunity to see the ins and outs of running a business.  It’s a really cool position to be in!
Unlike our other two interns, who work virtually, the General Intern MUST be local to the Philadelphia tri-state area.  You can check out a full description of the position below:

About the Position

YCS is seeking to fill one (1) unpaid General Intern position. This position is open to high school students, college students, and individuals interested in business, event management and/or styling experience.

This internship is an unpaid position. However, we will happily support our intern in garnering class credit for the internship. The intern may use these projects and the results (successful or otherwise) as a part of their personal portfolio. Plus, the YCS team loves writing glowing letters of recommendations to potential colleges or future employers!

Responsibilities

Expectations: The General Intern should be EXCELLENT at multitasking and juggling numerous projects and deadlines at once. Additionally, the GI is expected to have experience on a variety of Social Media platforms, as they will often be required to attend a number of events (i.e. fashion shows, launch parties, etc.) and document them via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. The GI must be able to think strategically about the business – “big picture vision” is a must. You must be willing to ask questions, speak up, get your hands dirty, buck the trends, go the extra mile, have a positive attitude, and, most importantly, have fun! As YCS grows, learns and changes, We hope the GI will too!

Skills and attributes:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
  • Be creative with an eye for design, fashion and all things stylish
  • Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.
  • Energy, with a desire to come up with fresh ideas on how to grow our business
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty
  • Ability to contribute individually, and participate in cross-functional teams

Requirements

Requirements: This job requires approximately 4 – 10 hours per week and may include nights and weekends. We also request that our intern be available for team meetings as they are scheduled (approximately once bi-monthly). Candidates should have both a strong interest in and knowledge of the fashion and/or event planning industries.

Job Description: The General Intern (GI for short) will wear many, many hats! This internship could basically be titled “Junior CEO.” The GI will assist with any and all personal styling, personal shopping and event management projects, as necessary. This could include assisting with event planning, event set-up/break-down, vendor management, client management, picking up clothing for styling clients, attending styling appointments and fittings, overseeing marketing communications, coordinating with our Blog Management and Social Media Interns or even baking cupcakes (just kidding – unless you want to bake cupcakes!).

The General Intern will not only garner experience in event management and personal styling/shopping, but also in overall business management and strategy. This position is perfect for an individual who is interested in entrepreneurship. It’s about as hands on as you can get without actually owning your own company.

What our Intern Should Know: This position is limited only by how big you can dream (and maybe a little bit by how much that dream will cost)! This is the perfect opportunity to try something new, make mistakes, learn from the mistakes and do it better the next time. If uncertainty, creativity, and change excite you, then this is the position for you!

Whew!! That’s a ton of information I just gave you!!  Take a minute to welcome our two spectacular interns to the team! And, if you or someone you know is interested in our General Intern position, simply send your resume and cover letter to info@yourchicisshowing.com.

Have a FABULOUS long weekend and we’ll see you back here next week!

Your Chic is Showing,
