Holiday Sparkle and Shine

Holiday Sparkle and Shine

By Erika, Resident Fashionista

The holidays are the perfect excuse (as if I needed one!) to add some extra sparkle and shine to your wardrobe.  There are plenty of holiday parties and NYE fetes where you’ll need to turn heads!  Pictured above are 3 easy ways to add some sparkle and shine to your holiday wardrobe without looking like a container of tinsel threw up on you!  Personally, I am a fan of the bling and the bling, so you’ll likely catch me in ensembles similar to these!  My NYE dresses routinely have sequins and sparkles – just ask my girlfriends!!

The thing I love about the first look (sequined tank top + leggings with leather detail) is that it is the perfect mix of casual, cool, and chic.  You can definitely wear this to a friend’s holiday gathering, out to dinner with the girls, or for a night on the town.  The hot pink purse, layered jewelry, and pretty headband (trends be darned!) are all you need to complete the look.  If the Rihanna for River Island strappy sandals aren’t your thing try a simple stiletto or ankle bootie instead.

I’m obsessed with everything about the second ensemble (sequined shorts + sheer top + blazer with leather sleeves) and have pretty much started scouring the internet to put together my own version for NYE in NYC with the girls (I’ll be cold, but who cares!).  The fun ear-cuffs and sexy, sequined shorts are my favorite things about this look.  I also love that if you choose to ditch the jacket the suspenders are a fun, unexpected touch.  A jewel-encrusted clutch by Karen Millen and over-the-knee boots by Guess complete this edgy yet sophisticated look.

I believe every girl should own a sequined dress (I have two, in case you’re wondering) – and this little black version is perfect for the holidays!  Typically, it might be advisable to keep everything else simple and understated with a dress that speaks volumes.  However, in this case, I think more is more!  The laser-cut yellow clutch and yellow chandelier earrings add the perfect pop of color without sending you out looking like a bumble bee!  I also love the sleek jewelry, especially the sleek cross ring.  Vampy nail polish (Gypsy Night by Topshop) and a pretty hair pin complete this look.

If sequined attire is a bit too flashy for you, there are tons of other fun ways to add sparkle and shine to your look – try a sparkly manicure, shimmery make-up, or cool hair accessories.  It’s the holidays so it’s perfectly OK to look like a (tres chic) walking party!
