Bonus Post: 2014 Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap

By Alexis, CEO, Jr.

The Golden Globes held Sunday night were a time of amazing and surprising fashion. There was a good amount of color-blocking and there was a ton of red on the red carpet. I spent all day Monday going over all the stars’ looks to figure out who wore it best and who didn’t work it as much as the rest. This post may seem like I didn’t edit my picks at all, but trust me when I say that my original list was massive! I finally narrowed it down to a handful of celebrities. I am in no words a real fashion critic, but I here is my list for best and worst for the 2014 Golden Globes red carpet!

First I’d like to start with my best dressed women and these are in no particular order.

Emma Watson looked gorgeous in this red Dior Couture gown with leggings and blue Roger Vivier shoes. When I first saw her hit the red carpet I was in shock, but then the look grew on me and I really love it. Her hair and make-up were also impeccable which really pulled the look together. I also heard orchid color lips are very in for Spring this year.

Kerry Washington was glowing in this white Balenciaga gown. I thought she dressed her baby bump perfectly and I loved her slight smoky eye with the gorgeous nude lip.

Next is Reese Witherspoon in this beautiful teal Calvin Klein gown. I love the open back and the color looks marvelous on her skin. I’m also digging her asymmetrical bob.

20140114-175820.jpg

Amy Adams looked striking in this Valentino Haute Couture piece. Even though I personally wasn’t a fan of the necklace she paired with it, I loved her updo and her coral cheeks.

20140114-175838.jpg

Now even though this Monique Lhullier dress didn’t get all the praise, I thought Drew Barrymore looked adorable. The colors looked great with her skin and she looks like the happiest pregnant woman in the world. The whole ensemble, especially the Roger Vivier shoes, gets a thumbs up from me.

Cate Blanchett’s Armani Privè black lace dress was one of my favorites from the night. The Golden Globes are a time to take a risk and I love the high neckline and the open back. I thought it was gorgeous!

20140114-180205.jpg

Another gorgeous pregnant woman from the night was Olivia Wilde in this emerald Gucci Premierè sequin gown. Her smoky eye and tasseled ombre locks really brought this look together.

20140114-180250.jpg

Margot Robbie looked incredible in this white Gucci gown. She looked sexy and classy at the same time and her makeup was gorgeous. Kudos to her makeup artist!

20140114-180415.jpg

Now let’s all take a moment to breathe in this amazing Ralph Lauren gown that Lupita Nyong’o rocked. Her skin was glowing and her cape was fierce. Enough said.

Next I want to look at the people who didn’t quite pull it off this year at the Golden Globes.

20140114-180507.jpg

First off we have Julie Bowen in this Carolina Herrera dress. I think the colors looked amazing together but the style made her look like she was going to a prom in the 80’s.

20140114-180639.jpg

Paula Patton has an AMAZING body. So why did she cover it up in the Stèphane Rolland gown that make her look like she’s wearing a tissue? I guess we will never know. I do love her earrings though!

20140114-180849.jpg

Aubrey Plaza may be hysterical on Parks and Recreation, but she looked far too purple in this Oscar de la Renta gown. Perhaps if all the accessories were not all purple and the hem was just a little different I would be digging this geisha-like look.

20140114-180935.jpg

Bèrènice Bejo is a stunning woman but this Giambattista Valli Couture gown was just not working for me. The flowers seemed pointless and the dress was way too long. It looked like she was dragging it around the red carpet.

20140114-181021.jpg

Julia Roberts is actually my favorite actress so I’m very sad to put her on my worst dressed list. We all know Julia loves a black and white piece and she especially loves Dolce & Gabbana, but I just didn’t get the ensemble. The white button down underneath and the too harsh eye makeup just didn’t work for me.

20140114-181111.jpg

There was nothing I liked about this Prabal Gurung dress on Zoe Saldana. The cut looked awkward on her, I didn’t understand the mixed and matched fabrics, and I absolutely hated the straps. This was a yuck for me.

20140114-181208.jpg

Now I love Chanel but I didn’t get why Emma Stone chose this boyish cut dress for the Golden Globes. I really wasn’t feeling it but her hair looked gorgeous so I’ll let this interesting choice slide and think of her in that amazing peach Calvin Klein gown from the 2011 Golden Globes.

20140114-181256.jpg

I do think Lena Dunham has done better than she has done in the past for award shows, but I still feel like this wasn’t quite right. I wasn’t a huge fan of the shade for her skin tone and the cut of the dress made her chest look awkward. You can figure this out Lena; I believe in you!

Lastly I want to look at some of the sexy men at the Golden Globes this year.

20140114-181350.jpg

First are Matthew McConaughey and his gorgeous wife Camila Alves both in Dolce & Gabbana. Camila usually steals the fashion spotlight from Matthew but he stood out this year in this gorgeous emerald velvet piece. Chris Pine also looked quite dapper last night in this Ermenegildo Zegna Couture suit.

20140114-181358.jpg

The next two men that made the best list are Usher in Calvin Klein and Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford. I absolutely loved this oxblood/burgundy color Usher was wearing and Bradley proved again that Tom Ford knows how to make a suit.

20140114-181403.jpg

The last three men that I thought looked amazing last night were Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Idris Elba. Jared looked super suave in this Saint Laurent suit and I loved that he pulled his hair back into a sleek bun (cough cough Alex Ebert). Leo looked amazing in Giorgio Armani like always and Idris finishes off the sexy men of the night in this navy Gucci suit.

As always let me know what you all think! Do you agree with all my choices? Are there people you would add to either category or some people you thought didn’t deserve to be where I put them? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Wow EMMA WATSON!! Great list, I missed the Golden Globes so I am totally loving this fashion recap…how many gorgeous pregnant ladies! Kind of makes me sad that I didn’t have a red carpet affair to go to when I was pregnant.

Angie – didn’t you just LOVE the huge risk Emma took? It’s so daring. The look had to grow on me, but she is definitely one of my faves from the GGs! She looked stunning. And yes, those baby bumps were awesome!!! Makes me want one of my own . . . some day! -YCS Erika
