So hey! It’s been a long time and I shouldn’t have left you. One day we’ll talk about my blogging break and reset, but today is NOT that day. So much has changed in my life since I last joined you here – like, SO MUCH! If you follow YCS on Instagram (@yourchicisshowing) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/yourchicisshowing) then you know that one of the biggest things that happened was that I got engaged!
After the engagement, a TON of people asked if I was going to cover the wedding on YCS. To be honest, I didn’t want to. I thought it would be a little pretentious and annoying. But the more people asked and the more I ran the idea by others and the more the others liked it, the more I figured “why not?!” There are some things I want to keep to myself until after the wedding is over (like the dress); but, I’ll definitely share some tips, tricks, and give you the inside scoop on the big day.
We are planning the wedding pretty fast – only about 9 months between proposal and wedding! So, it was important to be decisive about many big decisions early on. One of the most important decisions was around wedding colors. If I’m honest, I didn’t do a whole lot of consulting with my fiancé Roger on this one. His only request was “no red” which was easy enough to handle.
Because I already had an idea for the look and feel of the wedding, choosing my color palette was fairly easy, once I allowed myself to think outside of the box. At first, I toyed around with keeping it really simple and elegant – black, gold, and some sort of color pop. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew that I wanted something that was classy, sophisticated, and a little bit unexpected. I thought that black was kind of typical – and it’s what most people expected from me. I wanted to do something different. With all of that in mind plus my general style aesthetic, I landed on Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold for the wedding colors.
When most people hear my color palette they usually pause, think about it for a moment, and then say “I would have never put that together but it sounds beautiful!” Which, is exactly the reaction I was hoping for! I want my wedding to be anything but predictable. I also loved the colors because they are season agnostic – they can be used for summer, winter, spring or fall. And finally, I think they’re awesome because they’re not just a color, but also a texture. When you think of the colors you think of materials that are bright and shiny, rich with some depth to them.
Since announcing my own wedding plans, I have had a few other friends get engaged and have helped them brainstorm their own wedding color palettes. If you’re getting married, you might want to consider some of the following unique and stylish color palettes that incorporate metallic colors for your big day!
Gold + Blush + Dusty Rose + Plum
This color palette is perfect for the girliest of girlie girls. Light, sophisticated, and super sweet are all I can think of every time I picture this lovely combination of shades. I love the use of gold in this palette because it works as both a shiny accent color and a neutral base shade. That’s right, metallics are the new neutral (blog post on putting them in your wardrobe coming soon). So you can pretty easily anchor your wedding decor and clothing with this shade.
Charcoal Grey + Silver + Putty + Light Gray + Ivory
For the minimalist bride, this beautiful and elegant color palette is the way to go. This nearly monochromatic palette gives a bride the perfect base to make whatever she wants to pop at her wedding POP! Adding bright-colored flowers (think bright pinks, yellows, oranges) will, for example, add a fun, whimsical feel to your big day. Choosing accents in the pastel family will create a super sweet, romantic vibe for your big day.
Red + Turquoise + Putty + Gold
For the fun and daring bride, this palette is a winner. When you first hear the combo your brain likely does somersaults trying to wrap itself around the wild color comb. But how fun would a wedding with these vibrant colors be? The possibilities are endless in ways to tie these colors into your big day through flowers, attire, and decor. For the bride who wants a more laid back vibe this color combo could definitely do the trick!
When you think about planning your wedding, the color palette will be one of the first things that will start to bring a cohesive vision to life – especially if you’re like me and you don’t have a “theme” for the wedding. As you start to pull together everything from your own gown to your bridesmaids’ dresses to your decor it will all start to point back to this key decision. A great color palette is the foundation to any chic wedding.
